Talking to one of my favourite folk musicians!

I first met Ronan Kealy (Junior Brother’s real name) at the event Merchy Christmas in The Grand Social pub and concert venue in Dublin. I knew two of his songs at the time (‘The Men Who Eat Ringforts‘ and ‘Take Guilt‘), and was not affiliated with his albums. We spoke briefly at his merchandise stand and I bought a t-shirt that said ‘I Am Junior Brother’s Favourite’, referencing his EP called ‘Junior Brother’s Favourite‘. Since then, I have been a fan of his music and I have adored listening to songs he made on his first album such as ‘Coping’, as well as new songs recorded for his new album ‘The End‘ such as ‘Plague Medal’, which we discuss in the interview.

Logan Sounds Off and Junior Brother

In the interview, Ronan and I discuss many different topics regarding his music, including his inspirations and the first music he played with his secondary school band, as well as his very early demo recordings released on Bandcamp called ‘The Slane Is Gone‘.

As a fan and also as an interviewer, I loved talking to Ronan as he is such an interesting musician who writes some inspiring songs. He blends genres such as traditional Irish music, folk music as well as rock music.

If you haven’t heard Ronan’s music yet as Junior Brother, I strongly recommend you check it out, as it is interesting, inspiring and offbeat in a fun and creative way.
