Andy Kerr on Nomeansno, Punk Music and more!

In this interview on Logan Sounds Off, I sat down with incredible guitarist Andy Kerr who played with Nomeansno, The Infamous Scientists and more.

Interview with Andy Kerr

Today I am excited to be sharing an interesting conversation I had with Andy Kerr. For anyone who doesn’t know Andy or his work, Andy is a Canadian guitarist who formed the band The Infamous Scientists, performed live and in the studio with the band Nomeansno, and was part of the duo Hissanol. He also ventured into other works with other projects, including his solo career.

While playing with his band The Infamous Scientists, he released two EPs, with the last EP having John Wright (of Nomeansno) playing on it. Andy then joined Nomeansno for their EP “You Kill Me” after Nomeansno released their debut studio album called “Mama”. After that he performed on their studio album “Sex Mad” and more studio albums. After leaving Nomeansno, he began living in the Netherlands. He also played with Hissanol and made a solo studio album – “Once Bitten, Twice Removed” – after leaving Nomeansno.

In this interview, Andy and I discuss the recent reissues of Nomeansno’s album “Wrong” and “Sex Mad”, and the reissue of their single “Dad/Revenge”. We also discussed his career as a musician, and I got insight into Andy’s extensive musicial life. We chat about his inspirations as well as the new book “From Obscurity to Oblivion”, the Nomeansno biography.

I thoroughly enjoyed chatting to Andy. He was an amazing guest and was really informative. As a fan of Nomeansno, this was really cool.

I review “You’re Weird Now” by Guerilla Toss on my music podcast Logan Sounds Off.

Guerilla Toss – You’re Weird Now Album Review

Today I am ecstatic to be sharing an album review of the latest studio album “You’re Weird Now” by Gilded ALM. I received this blue vinyl copy from Gilded ALM, so thanks to Gilded ALM for sending this vinyl on to me! It’s a really cool pressing – and I love the colourway! As a vinyl nerd, I have to say this record looks amazing in person, and it suits the record: a weird colour for a weird album (I say affectionately)!

Guerilla Toss – “You’re Weird Now” album cover

I didn’t know about the album “You’re Weird Now” or the band Guerilla Toss until I received this vinyl, so I didn’t know what music I was getting into! It was exciting to be delighted by a new band on my first listen. The album was a handful, especially if you are a new fan. It grew on me though!

Guerilla Toss – “You’re Weird Now” tracklist

First off the bat – you will be weird after you listen to this – in the best way possible. This album is so quirky, cool and strange – in the best way possible. With songs like “Life’s A Zoo” (adequatly titled) and “Psychosis Is Just A Number”, we can really sense the funky electronic vibes on this album, along with many other genres – it’s giving so many different genres at once it is insane! Again, more proof that “You’re Weird Now” is unapologetically weird. I think that is one of the coolest types of music that can be put out – music that is just personal and of course, fun.

Guerilla Toss – “You’re Weird Now” blue vinyl

Guerilla Toss ticks a lot of the boxes for me. Although it may not be for everyone, it is for me. I strongly recommend this album to anyone who wants to listen to something light-hearted, fun and interesting. I am excited to hear what Guerilla Toss do in the future.

Niamh Regan Interview Live at Output Belfast!

In person interview video

On today’s episode of Logan Sounds Off, I share an interview I did with Niamh Regan, an incredible singer/songwriter from Galway.

As you may know, I have made multiple positive comments about Niamh’s music, especially on her second album “Come As You Are”, which I reviewed very positively on my podcast.

I first discovered Niamh’s music when Gary at Rollercoaster Records gave me “Come As You Are” on vinyl (as well as Shabaka’s latest album on vinyl too…), and from there I have been a fan.

Niamh and I met first at the Merchy Christmas event in The Grand Social, so it has been a long time coming this chat, and couldn’t come at a better time, place or setting.

I was lucky enough to be invited to Output Belfast, to open the event with an interview with Niamh, and we had an amazing chat. We discussed her songwriting, Juhn Echo, her debut album “Hemet”, playing live and her latest album “Come As You Are”.

Overall, this was a fantastic experience, and I would like to thank Niamh and all the team at Output Belfast for making this happen.

SPRINTS – “All That Is Over”, playing live and more

I chat to SPRINTS on Logan Sounds Off about their new album “All That Is Over”, their debut album “Letter to Self” and much more.

Interview with SPRINTS

In this episode of Logan Sounds Off, I spoke to Zac, Jack and Karla of the band SPRINTS. SPRINTS are an Irish alternative rock band that have made a massive impact since they landed on the scene, with their debut album “Letter To Self” facing much acclaim, to their new journey on “All That Is Over”, their latest studio album.

Even though SPRINTS have only released two albums, they are well known across the music community for their vibrant, punchy sound, seen from the very start of the career on songs such as “The Cheek”.

For new fans of SPRINTS, I am delighted to say that you have much more music to discover, via their debut album, singles, EPs as well as live sets. One live set we discussed in this interview was their live EP “Live At The Grand Social”.

As well as that, in this episode of Logan Sounds Off I discussed with SPRINTS an array of information regarding their new album “All That Is Over”, which is gaining a lot of attraction since it’s release, as well as their recommendations on what music to listen to outside of SPRINTS.

Live at The Grand Social

Overall, I really enjoyed this chat with SPRINTS, and I hope you do as well! For long term fans I think this will be very interesting, and fun to discover some insight into this band, as well as short term fans will be intrigued by some of the records mentioned in this episode. So to conclude, in my interview with SPRINTS, there is something for everyone, whether you are a hardcore fan, or a new fan. Make sure to check them out when they are near you!

During my second interview with Josh Homme we spoke about Desert Sessions, Eagles of Death Metal, Iggy Pop and more!

Today on Logan sounds Off, I am sharing my second conversation with Joshua Homme. Joshua Homme is the frontman of the rock band Queens of the Stone Age, and was a member of the well regarded, pioneering and influential Kyuss. As well as playing with these two magnificent groups, Joshua is also the frontman of The Desert Sessions; an ever-changing group/collective making some awesome music, as well as Eagles of Death Metal. As we discuss in the interview about Eagles Of Death Metal, I think those four words describe the band the best!

Logan Sounds Off and Josh Homme

The first time I spoke with Josh was in the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, on the last night of “The End Is Nero Tour”, in November 2023. We had a great chat, and discussed Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age and more, but in this conversation before their concert at Royal Hospital Kilmainham we discuss Eagles Of Death Metal, The Desert Sessions and more.

I am so proud of this chat – Josh is such an incredible human being and it was a pleasure to get to have another beautiful chat about music, and the deeper meanings behind the speakers. It was so cool to get insight into one of the greatest people (yet alone musicians) on the scene, and get to also vibe about some music.

I think not only as a fan of Queens, but as a fan of music, this chat is important to me. Josh listens to Stephen O’ Malley! And I do too!! These moments is what make the chat great, getting to relate about some of the best musicians out there, with one of the best musicians out there.

And to make it even better, the concert was mind-blowing. I would expect nothing less!

Long Live The Queens!

Interview with The Riptide Movement’s Malachy and Gerry!

Today I am excited to be sharing my first live interview, which was with The Riptide Movement! We held our conversation live at Kaleidoscope Festival, for the audience, and the recording for you!

We had an amazing conversation about The Riptide Movement’s new music, including The Old Stomping Ground as well as their latest track When The Sun Comes Up. We also spoke about what it was like to perform at Glastonboury, and some of their adventures there.

We also chatted about The Elephant In The Room, which is a very important initiative to start conversations about mental health. You can check it out here: https://www.elephantintheroom.ie/about-elephant-in-the-room

As well as this, we discussed the amazing place of recording for their album “Ghosts”, and what that was like; being out in the middle of nowhere – and how that reflected the album’s title. We also touched on their early roots, as well as how the group began, from the early band formation and busking, to as well as that their debut album “What About The Tip Jars”.

I was lucky enough to see The Riptide Movement play live after this interview, and they were fantastic. I loved seeing them bring out the Elephant, more info here: https://www.elephantintheroom.ie/. As well as this, they blew me away with their fantastic talent – for me, it was wild: going from listening to these tracks at home and out and about, to seeing them on stage was amazing!

As well as her first and latest project, Tanita and I also discuss guest appearances on her albums, including Paul Brady and Nick Lowe.

Regarding her upcoming album, we also discussed the rollout, including a big “LIAR” shop, protest kits, handmade t-shirts and a whole lot of the peaceful protest ideology! Also we discuss the community aspect of this album rollout and the idea behind the shop and the now “LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right)” mural that was posted on Tanita’s social media.

The “LIAR” shop

I had the chance to see Tanita play live alongside Mary Coughlan, where she played some incredible music. Since then, I have been a massive fan. That concert was amazing, and if Tanita is playing near you, make sure to try and get tickets!

As a music fan, I am delighted to see this iconic, offbeat album rollout. It intrigues me, and is very provocative. I cannot wait for the album to be released, and I know you can’t wait too! But if you are new to Tanita’s music, follow her on socials and check out her music, you won’t regret it!

Today on Logan Sounds Off I chat with David Keenan; songwriter, singer and guitarist. I speak with him about his work and upcoming projects, including a film and his fourth studio album.

Interview with David Keenan

In this interview David and I discuss David’s film “Focla ar Chanbhás” or “Words On Canvas”. Directed by Paddy Hayes, the film will get its world premier at Chicago Irish Film Festival. It was really interesting to speak to David about the film, and I hope to see it soon.

Accompanying the film, for both film and music fans get a bonus treat with David releasing digital collection called “Acoustic Songs”, available to purchase now here.

As well as this we discussed how David got into songwriting at a young age, and what inspired his songwriting skill, which he has used to write three albums up until this point. With this, he has made some incredible tracks that have an emotional depth that is unmatched by many other artists.

As well as these three albums, David is set to release his fourth studio album this year, with the lead single “Ammelioration” released soon as well. It is a fantastic track and I am very excited to see the reaction to the songs release.

On top of all the incredible work listed here, David has a new venture into film scoring for the film “Salvable”. I have spoke with Louis Robert King, another film composer on the podcast as well, so it was really interesting for me as a fan of David’s to get insight into how he found making the film score, and what it was like.

While this is my 20th interview on my podcast Logan Sounds Off, it is also a milestone for Aidan, as it is his first time using Zoom!

I really enjoyed chatting with Aidan and it was great to learn more about his career which began in Pirate Radio to where he is now at Q102 Radio. And it was great too, to learn more about some of the music that Aidan grew up with!
